Justin Allen McCauley

Principal

Justin Allen McCauley was born and raised in Portland, Oregon USA. He graduated from Corbett High School, a small rural high school outside of Portland, and immediately began his university studies. Mr. McCauley went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Portland State University. He then completed his post-baccalaureate education at Warner Pacific College, earning his licensure to teach English at the middle school and high school level. Mr. McCauley taught Language Arts, Leadership, and Film Studies at Centennial High School, in Oregon, for 10 years. During his teaching career, Mr. McCauley continued his academic study, earning a Master of Education degree from Lewis and Clark College. He has since furthered his studies at Concordia University, completing their Continuing Administrative Licensure program. Soon after earning his master’s degree, Mr. McCauley began his administrative career as the Dean of Students for Centennial High School, then as the Vice Principal of Reynolds High School, continuing as the Principal of Reynolds Learning Academy, and finally as the Director of Education Options for the Reynolds School District. During his tenure, all three of the schools where he served as an administrator enjoyed significant growth in academic attainment scores, particularly in Reading, and increased their state rating. Most recently, Mr. McCauley has spent the last four years as an Academic Vice Principal for the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge. During that time, Mr. McCauley has served in a leadership capacity beyond his school, coordinating all Abu Dhabi Cycle 3 Academic Vice Principals, mentoring struggling principals, and training administrators and teachers. Under his leadership, Mr. McCauley’s school has gone from a, “Weak,” school to an, “Acceptable/Good,” school, according to the ADEK/MOE Inspection Reports, in the last three years. Mr. McCauley has been married for 25 years. His wife is also a career educator and has taught Grade 4-5 Science in Abu Dhabi for the last four years. Together, he and his wife have raised two children who have finished their university studies and are now employed in their degree fields. Mr. McCauley is excited to join the North American International School Community and looks forward to a fantastic year next year.

Crystal C. Goodwin

Academic Vice Principal High School

Crystal C. Goodwin has dedicated 22 years to education, earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Columbia College, a teaching certification from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Cambridge College. Licensed in teaching and leadership in Georgia, she has extensive experience in both the United States and the UAE. Crystal has taught Chemistry and Physics, developed high school science curricula, and served as a cheerleading coach. In the UAE, she worked as a teacher before transitioning to leadership roles, serving as Curriculum Coordinator at an American high school in Dubai and now as Vice Principal for secondary and high school at NAIS. Passionate about education's role in societal improvement, Crystal emphasizes teaching that combines foundational knowledge with critical thinking, inspiring students to become global innovators. She has lived in the UAE with her family for 11 years and enjoys spending time with her husband and sons, especially at their rugby and American football games.

Jonathan D’Avignon

Academic Vice Principal Middle School

Jonathan D’Avignon began his educational career in 1997 as a social studies teacher at James A. Shanks High School, where he developed a new curriculum, secured grants, and established mentoring networks. In 1999, he joined Seaside Neighborhood School, one of Florida’s first charter schools, teaching middle school for four years. He later earned a master’s in Political Science and an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of West Florida. In 2008, Jonathan became an assistant principal at Freeport High School, and over the next 15 years, he led innovative programs like the Magnet Innovation Center STEAM school and Walton In”10”sity School of Excellence. In 2023, he began his international career in Hanoi, Vietnam, as Head of English Programs at The Dewey Schools, managing bilingual education for over 1,300 students. His leadership experience includes coaching teachers, supporting diverse learners, and delivering professional development at regional and national levels. Outside of work, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his daughter and fiancé, riding motorcycles, painting, and savoring life’s simple pleasures.

Jennifer Rose McCauley

Academic Vice Principal Elementary School

Rose McCauley has been in education since 2003. She began her career teaching grades one through four in the United States before moving overseas in 2015 to work in the UAE. Rose has a bachelor’s degree in education, Summa Cum Laude, and a master’s degree in Education, specializing in Curriculum and Instruction. In the UAE she worked for 4 years for ADEK in Abu Dhabi before shifting to Dubai in the summer of 2019. Since moving to Dubai, she has worked as a Vice Principal at North American International School covering all grade levels from kindergarten to grade 12. As North American continues to grow, she has now moved to specialize in grades Kindergarten to grade 5.

Natasha Sorak

Head of Section (KG - Grade 2)

Natasha Sorak is from Chicago, Illinois in the United States. She grew up in Chicago and graduated with a Bachelor's in Psychology and a minor in history from Loyola University. Natasha moved to the UAE in 2013 and got her CACHE Level 3 as an Early Years Practitioner, followed by a Post-Graduate Certification in Education for K-12. Natasha is currently studying for her master’s in educational leadership with a dual degree in Psychology and Counselling. Natasha is the Head of Lower Elementary (Grades KG-2), with a focus in kindergarten specifically, at NAIS. Natasha has worked at NAIS since 2016, first as a KG1 teacher and now as Head of Department.

Noha Shaban

Head of Inclusion

Noha Shaaban has dedicated 26 years to the field of education, beginning her career as a regular education teacher with a profound passion for teaching and developing children's learning and life skills. Her exceptional dedication and performance earned her numerous awards and certificates of excellence, leading to her promotion as Head of the Elementary Stage. In 2004, Noha shifted her focus towards providing support and interventions for students with learning difficulties, ensuring they have equitable learning opportunities. She furthered her expertise by obtaining a master’s degree in Special and Inclusive Education from the Institute of Education, University College London, in 2011. Since then, Noha has become a pioneer in facilitating inclusion for students with special educational needs in mainstream international schools across Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Her work continues to make a significant impact on the lives of students, promoting inclusive education and fostering an environment where every student can thrive.

Cherith Maples

Elementary School Counselor

Cherith Maples, originally from Seattle, has over 20 years of K-8 education experience in roles such as teacher, specialist, Curriculum Coordinator, Instructional Coach, and currently Elementary School Counselor. She holds degrees in Elementary Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Human Services Counseling. Since joining NAIS in 2023, she has developed a comprehensive Elementary School Counseling Program aligned with ASCA standards, focusing on students' social-emotional growth, wellbeing, and leadership skills. She collaborates with the NAIS counseling team to enhance the school's safeguarding and community climate. A former competitive swimmer, Cherith continues to enjoy swimming for fitness and mindfulness while also pursuing her passion for wellness, cooking, and crafting.

Krystel Venzant

Dean of Students Middle School

Krystel is from Houston Texas in the United States and has 10+ years of educational experience. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Sam Houston State University and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Lamar University; both schools are in Texas. She holds both a Teaching and Leadership licenses from the state of Texas. She spent 5 years overseeing a K-8 program in Houston before transitioning to teaching 9-12 social studies classes for 10 years in both Houston and the UAE. Krystel joined NAIS two years ago and is focused on creating an environment that allows education to occur while ensuring students are safe at all times. Outside of school, Krystel enjoys being in nature.

Maha Gala El-Tantawy

Dean of Students High School

Maha Gala El-Tantawy holds a BA in Computer Science from Cairo University and a PMP certification in Project Management, along with post-graduate studies in Engineering Project Management from the American University in Cairo. She has 7 years of experience in Engineering Computerized System Management and 12 years in UAE schools. Maha has held roles including ICT teacher, school lead supervisor, Middle/High School Deputy Director, and is currently the Dean of Students at NAIS. She is dedicated to student safety and well-being, ensuring their success while upholding discipline and adhering to MOE policies. Her diverse experience and commitment to excellence make her a valuable leader in education.

Joshua Quinn

Secondary Social-Emotional Wellbeing Counselor

Joshua Quinn has over a decade of experience in education and 14 years in mental and behavioral health, focusing on children and adolescents. He holds degrees in Psychology, History, and Education, and has taught subjects like Sociology, AP Psychology, History, and Geography in the USA and UAE. As the founder of BARS Institute, he uses behavioral and military psychology to empower teen boys, and he recently launched the STARS Institute for teenage girls in Dubai. Currently, Joshua serves as a Secondary Social-Emotional Wellbeing Counselor, supporting students with behavioral and cognitive challenges. He has worked internationally, contributing to mental health research and virtual learning in Cuba, Haiti, China, and Nepal. As a Behavioral Therapist, he has supported students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Asperger’s Syndrome. Joshua holds certifications in NLP, Clinical Hypnotherapy, Grief Coaching, and Mindfulness Practice. His multidisciplinary expertise combines education and mental health to foster student growth and well-being.
