Overview
North American International School (NAIS) offers students in grades 6-8 opportunities that develop social, academic, and athletic skills. Academically, California Common Core State Standards is the foundation for our curriculum. Our curriculum prepares students for success in high school and beyond while fostering essential 21st-century skills, including citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, leadership, and a growth mindset. These skills help shape our students into global citizens. Middle school students are introduced to ambassadorship opportunities, intermural sports, afterschool tutoring, afterschool clubs and individual student support during the school day.
At NAIS, students engage in various activities, such as volunteering, local competitions, in-school service projects, and mentoring programs, which enhance their learning experience and personal development.
Middle school is a time for creating goals for success which can be achieved throughout the North American School experience. An experience threaded together with rigorous academic standards, practical skills and social emotional well-being thus developing the whole child.
NAIS Middle School Curriculum
Our American curriculum challenges students academically while offering cross-curricular learning opportunities. Our focus is on core learning opportunities within Math, Science, English, and Social Studies. Evidence of student learning is clear with Project Based Learning, International Standard testing and internal assessments revealing skills and knowledge with is both cumulative and relative.
To support academic advancement, NAIS provides core curriculum intervention classes, Music, PE, Art, ICT and Foreign Language. Our wheel classes are purposeful and allow students to ‘experience’ all electives throughout the year, while maintaining focus on academics. Additionally, our wheel approach allows for in-depth experiences within the classroom and allows students to develop understanding for connection beyond each core class.
Lastly, our middle school teachers are highly qualified and work across grade levels and subject areas to ensure a comprehensive network of support for all students.
